City Church Dundee is keen to build and create community.

City Church is keen to be part of the local community and also help build community by serving all walks of life. Before moving to The Friary, we had been somewhat restricted in our ability to serve the community in Dundee because of a lack of appropriate premises. The acquisition of the premises at St. Francis Friary provides a fantastic context for the Church’s mission to serve.

VISION
We have a vision to provide, for example, activities for mums with pre-school children, parents, students, unemployed and low wage earners, the elderly and the lonely. We also want the wage earner to be built into community just as much as those on low-income.

FACILITIES FOR THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
Since moving into The Friary, City Church has organised annual Family Fun Days
in The Friary Gardens which attracted 1000+ visitors. It has also started the Community Bridge, a weekly community cafe which is open to all. The Bridge is renowned for being a welcoming, caring and supportive environment offering a range of help and support. In addition, the church has set up Little Stars - a parents and toddlers play group for children from birth to pre-school.

Various groups now use the facilities at The Friary to offer acitivities for the local community. These include for example; Zumba, Slimming World, Recovery at the Friary, the Service-User Network (SUN) Drop-In, the Join-In Music Group and Dundee War Gamers.

NEW COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT STAFF MEMBER

In November 2015, City Church started to employ a dedicated member of staff to develop community links and local community engagement with The Friary.

We are grateful to the generous support given by the Joseph Rank Trust and The Rank Foundation to fund this part-time position for 3 years. This will greatly help us as we seek to develop and build our links with the local and wider community.
